HOOPLA is Back!
HOOPLA is back for Roseland Free Public Library patrons! Simply go to and enter your library card information to download free music, movies, television programs, audiobooks, and ebooks with no late fees. Please note: each patron is entitled to any FOUR downloads per month at this time. If you need one-on-one help getting started, see our assistants Tami Jaegel and Scott Bergenfeld.
Special Upcoming Story Times
We have some special story times planned! On Tuesday, May 22, at 9:30 and 11:30 am, enjoy a visit from our local EMS squad and an ambulance tour. Weather permitting, we will break out the water toys for a fun-filled outdoor story time on Wednesday, May 23, at 9:30 and 11:30 am - dress to get wet!
Author Visit: Lou Redmond
Nutley-based author and motivational speaker Lou Redmond visits the library to discuss his book, Find Your Truth , which shares his personal journey and transformation from a lifestyle of partying, drugs, and mayhem to one of sobriety, self discovery, and awareness. RSVP 973-226-8636.
Author Visit: Mark Bergman
Livingston author Mark Bergman will give a presentation on his novel, Cat's Ball, the story of a high school star athlete whose life changes after meeting a girl with Down syndrome and getting involved with her soccer team. RSVP 973-226-8636.
Weekly Adult Mat Yoga Classes
Enjoy an invigorating Adult Mat Yoga Class with Taryn and Kristin every Wednesday at 11:30 am. RSVP is appreciated.
Book Donations Wanted
We are now accepting book donations for our Annual Book Sale, hosted by the Friends of the Roseland Free Public Library, set for Wednesday-Friday, June 20-22. Please note we'll not accept encyclopedias, textbooks, or magazines. Bring donations to the circulation desk during our regular hours (Mon-Thurs 9 am-9 pm, Fri 9 am-5 pm, Sat 10 am-3 pm), do not leave outside.
Walking for Fitness
This group fitness activity meets Mondays in June at 10 am. Explore different types of exercise and healthy recipes in a relaxed setting. Includes 20-30 minutes of low-impact exercise streamed on video (emphasis on walking), followed by a discussion. Ideal for beginning fitness levels. Bring towel and water bottle. Call to RSVP.
NEW! Library Running Club
Are you passionate about running or want to get started? Weather permitting, the group will meet at the library Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 pm and Saturdays at 8 am. All ages and abilities welcome, healthy refreshments available after each run. RSVP at 973-226-8636 and get more info at for more information.
Chair Yoga Mondays
Join us for some chair yoga workouts (streamed on video) Mondays in May and June starting at 11 am. Call to RSVP.
Adult Meditation Classes
Adult Guided Meditation classes will take place at 10 am and 7 pm on Thursdays, May 24, at 10 am and 7 pm, June 6 at 7 pm, and June 7 at 10 am. RSVP is appreciated.
Matinee Mondays
Our next film on Monday, May 21, at 1 pm will be The Darkest Hour, a 2017 drama about Winston Churchillís early days as Britainís prime minister as he agonizes over whether to fight Hitler or negotiate with him. Rated PG-13, runs 125 minutes. Popcorn will be served, and no RSVP is needed.
Knitting & Crochet Club
Enjoy an evening of knitting and crocheting at the library on Monday, May 21, starting at 7 pm. New members welcome.
Important Delivery Update
Patrons may now have up to three book requests at once. If you have more, they won't be automatically cancelled, but you won't be able to place any new requests until you have less than three. BCCLS informational video:
Leveled Reading List Books Available
Noecker Kids & Parents: We now have a list of books available at the library for the leveled reading system used at Noecker Elementary School. All you have to do is inquire at the Circulation Desk, and you can see a list of books at your child's current level that we have available.
Library Book Club May Selection
The Roseland Free Public Library Book Club will meet on Wednesday, May 23, at 7:15 pm to discuss Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. In this award-winning novel, 13-year-old Fred Drum's life takes an unexpected turn following a string of tragedies that turn his carefree family life in 1961 small-town Minnesota into a starker view of what he thought he knew. New members welcome.
Scott's Solutions: Classes by Appointment
Library assistant Scott Bergenfeld can show you the basics of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other tech resources Fridays (as well as Mondays starting May 21) 9 am-noon. Safely navigate social media; create resume templates, letters, and spreadsheets; utilize cell phone, iPad, and Kindle features, such as calendars and more. Please note: RSVP needed for this drop-in instruction, call 973-226-8636.
Mobile Hotspots Available
Mobile Hotspots are now available for our patrons to borrow! Available to patrons 18 or older with a valid driver's license and Roseland Free Public Library card in good standing. Each hotspot provides internet access for up to 10 devices. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis, and the loan period is 14 days. There will be a $5 per day late fee.
Museum Passes Available
We have NEW museum passes to the Jewish Museum, Grounds for Sculpture, and the Children's Museum of Manhattan! Patrons can also borrow passes for themselves and/or their families for The Newark Museum, Montclair Museum, Morris Museum, The NY Transit Museum, The Jewish Museum, the Children's Museum of Manhattan, Grounds for Sculpture, and Imagine That!
